About Music to the Ears

We help students discover their creative potential.

A nonprofit foundation, a creative education organization, and an experienced Community Implementation Partner.

Our story

Where this started.

Music to the Ears started with a straightforward observation: young people were making things - beats, videos, photographs, businesses - and almost none of the systems around them treated that as a serious route anywhere. Music was the entry point because it is the one most young people walk toward on their own. It was never the boundary.

For more than a decade, Music to the Ears has provided creative education, industry experiences, mentorship, and career pathways across schools, libraries, public spaces, and community organizations. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation and experienced Community Implementation Partner, we transform ideas, partnerships, and funding into meaningful programs that help students discover their potential, develop real-world skills, and prepare for creative careers and future opportunities.

Why creativity

Creativity changes what students believe is possible.

Creative learning challenges students to turn ideas into something real, share their work, communicate their choices, and learn through the process. Along the way, they develop the skills that matter in school, careers, and life. This includes critical thinking, communication, confidence, persistence, problem-solving, and collaboration.

More than music

Music is the door. It was never the room.

Music to the Ears is regularly mistaken for a music program. Music is one of ten Creative Pathways. The others - media, design, video, podcast, photography, performance, events, entrepreneurship, technology - carry just as much programming, and the point of all of them is the same: connect an interest to a skill, a skill to a project, and a project to an industry.

Our approach

Five principles that guide our work.

These principles shape how we design, deliver, and sustain meaningful creative learning experiences for students and communities.

Meet students where they are

Schools, libraries, public spaces, and community organizations. We bring creative learning directly into the places students already learn, gather, and explore.

Learn from practitioners

Programs are led by educators, creatives, and industry professionals who bring real-world experience, tools, technology, and perspectives directly into the learning environment.

Create something real

Every program gives students the opportunity to turn concepts into finished creative works. The process of creating something from start to finish builds skills, confidence, and momentum.

Build lasting capacity

We design programs with partners, educators, and community organizations so creative learning can grow beyond a single workshop, activation, or experience.

Connect creativity to opportunity

Creative exploration should lead somewhere. We connect student interests to skills, projects, mentors, industries, and career pathways that help them see what is possible and take the next step.
