Type Beat
Type Your Story. Create Your Future.
Overview
What it is.
Type Beat is a creative writing, storytelling, and life skills program that uses typewriters to help students slow down, focus, find their voice, and express their ideas with intention. Inspired by the cultural meaning of a "type beat" in music, the program flips the phrase into a hands-on learning experience where students discover that every song, story, business, and creative idea begins with words.
Rooted in the BEAT Framework (Business, Entertainment, Arts, Technology) and aligned with the SELF Framework (Social Emotional Learning Fundamentals), the program combines creative writing, self-reflection, communication, and storytelling with the tactile experience of using a typewriter. Students explore poetry, lyrics, personal narratives, letters, scripts, journalism, business ideas, and other forms of written expression while developing patience, confidence, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Type Beat helps students slow down, think deeper, and find their voice, transforming the typewriter into a creative tool for self-expression, storytelling, communication, and personal growth.
