In 2019, Music to the Ears partnered with Academix and Microsoft Education to host a Back to School coding workshop, introducing students to coding and digital skills through Minecraft at our 11th Street location in Downtown Los Angeles.
The opportunity
For many young people, coding can feel technical, intimidating, or disconnected from their interests. By introducing coding through a platform students already recognize and enjoy, technology becomes something they can explore, create with, and understand.
The Music to the Ears approach
- Use Minecraft as an engaging introduction to coding and computational thinking
- Connect technology to creativity, problem-solving, and digital exploration
- Provide small-group, hands-on instruction for students ages 8-16
- Bring professional technology expertise directly into the learning environment
The experience
Led by a Microsoft MIE Certified Trainer, students learned coding through Minecraft while developing digital skills through experimentation, problem-solving, and play. We hosted (2) workshops for students, ages 8-16, at our 11th Street location in Downtown Los Angeles.
